Graduation Requirements and Planner

Course Requirements

The following units are required under the new graduation rule for ninth-grade students in fall of 2022 and beyond:

  • 8th Enhanced Literature & Composition or 9th Literature & Composition I
  • Literature & Composition II or the equivalent: AP Seminar or AP English Language
  • American Literature Composition or World Literature & Composition or Advanced Composition or AP Course or Dual Enrollment Course
  • One additional English credit
Mathematics 4
  • Algebra Concepts & Connections
  • Geometry Concepts and Connections
  • Advanced Algebra Concepts & Connections
  • Plus, one additional Math credit
Science 4
  • Biology
  • Physical Science or Physics
  • Chemistry, Earth Systems, or Environmental Science
  • Plus, one additional Science credit
Social Studies 3
  • World History
  • U.S. History
  • American Government (.5 credit)
  • Personal Finance & Economics (.5 credit)

Career Tech. / World Language / Fine Arts

  • Students must take a minimum of three credits in CTAE, Fine Arts, or World Language

*Students seeking admission to a four-year college or university in Georgia must take a minimum of two units of the same language.

Health / General Physical Ed. 1
  • Health (.5 credit)
  • Personal Fitness or a Waiver (.5 credit)

*Students at Cambridge will take General PE or Weight Training and, after the class, will be required to submit the Personal Fitness waiver to fulfill the Personal Fitness Requirement.

Electives 4
  • Four additional credits are required from the subject areas listed above.
Total 23  

* Students wishing to receive industry certification in certain areas under Career Technical and Agricultural Education programs must follow specific pathways.

Promotion Guide

To be identified in a particular grade, a student must have a minimum of the following credits:

  • To be a 10th grader, you need "5" credits
  • To be an 11th grader, you need "11" credits
  • To be a 12th grader, you need "17" credits
