Do you want to be a Bear?

Letter from Ashley Agans, Principal

I am the proud Principal of Cambridge High School.  I am reaching out to make sure that students and parents know about the possibility of attending Cambridge High School under the new Fulton County Schools (FCS) board policy for Change of Student Assignment (COSA). Under this new policy, families can apply for a space at our school, even if they do not live in the Cambridge district, so long as they can provide transportation and reside in Fulton County.

Cambridge High School is an amazing place to learn, grow, and make memories that will last a lifetime.  Cambridge is an exceptional academic institution.  Cambridge is ranked #24 in Georgia, #17 in Metro Atlanta, and #734 in the nation (out of over 18,000 schools considered) by US News and World Report.  We have a 96.7% graduation rate with 76.8% of our students eligible for the HOPE Scholarship.  We offer 32 AP Course offerings, with 83.5% of our students scoring “3” or higher on their exams.  We also participate in the Dual Enrollment program.  88.67% of our students attend four-year colleges and our SAT scores have climbed to an average of 593, beating out both the state and the district SAT average.

Cambridge isn’t just about our academics.  Cambridge has over 70 clubs, from BETA and the Car Club to Equestrian IEA and SkillsUSA.  We offer 25 athletic teams and finished as the #2 AAAAA athletic program in the state.  Both girls’ and boys' sports are competitive; our girls finished #1 in the state, earning the Director’s Cup for three of the last four years.  Twenty of our teams qualified for the state playoffs last year with six Region Championships and seven Region Runner-Ups.  Our Arts program includes the 2024 State Champion One-Act Play from our BRIDGE Ensemble, and we are one of only two Marching Bands attending the National Band of America Competition this year.  Our students excel in visual arts: 2024 was the winningest group of Art students in the history of Cambridge, beating out local schools with three gold keys, two silver keys, and six honorable mentions at the Georgia Region of Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

One of the many reasons I am proud to be the principal of Cambridge High School is because our students excel in Academics, the Arts, and Athletics.  Cambridge graduates talented young people, ready for their next journey.  With the new COSA policy, I am excited to extend the opportunity for your child to attend Cambridge High School.  For more information on courses and programs at Cambridge, here is a link to our Academic Curriculum Guide for 2025 – 2026.  On Thursday, November 21, I invite you to attend our CHS Electives Fair and see all of the options for electives, including physical education, the arts, academic electives, and our Career Tech options.  Come out on November 21, meet our teachers, and view our options for yourselves.  On December 3, bring the entire family for our community Holiday Extravaganza.  A great way to tour the school and welcome in the holidays!  We will have Santa, a holiday bazaar with local artisans sponsored by FFA, the opportunity to build a snowman, decorate a holiday cookie, participate in holiday-themed STEM labs, and much more.  This is our second annual event and just one of the ways we are the BRIDGE to our community.

I hope I get the opportunity to welcome you to Bear Country in the coming weeks.  Change of School Assignment applications open on December 9 and will close on January 15.  Whether you come out on November 11 to cheer on our Marching Band on their way to Nationals (gates open at 6:00 pm!), visit our Electives Fair on November 21 at 5:30 pm to look at course options, or come out in December for a meeting with me and a tour of the school (meetings will be posted on our website, www.cambridgehs.org for December 2 and 3); or get into the holiday spirit with Cambridge Holiday Extravaganza on December 3 from 6:00 to 8:00  pm; take a moment to investigate the options Cambridge can bring to you and your family. If you are looking for a high school that provides your child with academic rigor and a strong community, you must explore Bear Country.

Thank you for your consideration.  If you need more information, I encourage you to visit www.cambridgehs.org.  You can also reach out to me through our front office.  Wherever your child attends high school, I hope they find an excellent learning and community environment.  I hope they feel welcomed and thrive in their coursework and their talents.  As a parent and principal, I hope all Bears leave Cambridge believing that their high school experience was their best years.  Be safe.  Be the BRIDGE.  GO BEARS!

Sincerely,

Ashley B. Agans
Principal

Frequently Asked Question

Do I have to re-enroll my student if he or she is in a feeder-pattern student rolling up to Cambridge High School for 9th grade?
  • No—Your student's records will automatically roll up to Cambridge High School, with the expectation that he or she will attend next year.

  • You will be required to provide proof of residency during the summer before 9th grade starts. All 9th and 10th graders are required to provide two proofs of residency to maintain enrollment at the school.

If my rising 9th-grade student is not planning to attend Cambridge High School next year, what do I do?
  • You must go to Cambridge High School after school is released for the summer and withdraw your student, even if you have not attended Cambridge High School yet.

I am a Fulton County resident but not zoned for Cambridge High School.  Can I still attend Cambridge High School?
  • You can apply to attend Cambridge High School through the Change of School Assignment process. Applications are accepted between December 9th and January 15th for the next school year’s (2025-2026) enrollment. You can find more information about the open enrollment on Fulton County Schools' COSA page.

I do not live in Fulton County. Can I come to Cambridge High School?
  • No. You must live in Fulton County to attend a Fulton County Schools, including Cambridge High School.

My student earned high school credits in middle school. Do I have to take them, and what happens if I do/don’t?
  • 8th-grade families will complete the high school credit accept/decline process through their FCS middle school at the end of the 8th-grade year.  If credits are accepted, they are permanently posted to the student’s high school transcript, become part of the student’s high school numeric average, and cannot be removed from the transcript in the future.  If the credits are accepted, the class cannot be repeated or retaken in high school. If credits are declined, they cannot be added to the high school transcript in the future, and the student will repeat the course in high school if needed.

Can I take a tour of Cambridge High School before coming to the school next year if I am a rising 9th grader from a feeder-pattern school?
  • In the spring, 8th-grade students from our feeder schools will take a field trip to tour Cambridge High School. Students from our non-feeder schools are also welcome to attend this tour, which will be held during the school day. This summer, we will have our annual Bear Camp for all rising 9th-grade students and students new to Cambridge High School. More information, as it becomes available, will be posted on our website.

For prospective new students to Cambridge High School, Campus Tours have been scheduled and can be viewed at Campus Tours. Please sign up via the form on this page so we know more about your student and their interests.

When will we select our classes for next year?  I don’t want the classes to be full.
  • Current 8th-grade students from our feeder schools will fill out schedule requests in the spring through their middle school. Any other new students will fill out schedule requests upon completing their Fulton County Schools Online Registration Application. Schedules are not completed and set until right before school starts, so there is plenty of time.

Can I meet with the high school counselor to discuss my classes?
  • Rising 9th grade students will select classes at their school with the help of teacher recommendations and the middle school counselor. Students new to Fulton County Schools will meet with a counselor upon completion of the online enrollment process.

Can I come to the school in person and register my student to start that same day?
  • Fulton County uses an online registration system to register students. Once the online registration is complete and all necessary documents are uploaded, parents/guards are instructed to email their completed online registration number (OLR) to chsenrollments@fultonschools.org so that the Registrar can process the enrollment. Once the enrollment is completed, the Registrar will put the parent/guardian in touch with their assigned counselor to make their schedule. While sometimes registrations can be completed and processed in one day (usually when all documents are included and there are no problems with the registration), it typically takes at least two days to complete the enrollment and be ready to start.
