New Student Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Question
Do I have to re-enroll my student if he or she is in a feeder-pattern student rolling up to Cambridge High School for 9th grade?
-
No—Your student's records will automatically roll up to Cambridge High School, with the expectation that he or she will attend next year.
-
You will be required to provide proof of residency during the summer before 9th grade starts. All 9th and 10th graders are required to provide two proofs of residency to maintain enrollment at the school.
If my rising 9th-grade student is not planning to attend Cambridge High School next year, what do I do?
-
You must go to Cambridge High School after school is released for the summer and withdraw your student, even if you have not attended Cambridge High School yet.
I am a Fulton County resident but not zoned for Cambridge High School. Can I still attend Cambridge High School?
-
You can apply to attend Cambridge High School through the Change of School Assignment process. Applications are accepted between December 9th and January 15th for the next school year’s (2025-2026) enrollment. You can find more information about the open enrollment on Fulton County Schools' COSA page.
I do not live in Fulton County. Can I come to Cambridge High School?
-
No. You must live in Fulton County to attend a Fulton County Schools, including Cambridge High School.
My student earned high school credits in middle school. Do I have to take them, and what happens if I do/don’t?
-
8th-grade families will complete the high school credit accept/decline process through their FCS middle school at the end of the 8th-grade year. If credits are accepted, they are permanently posted to the student’s high school transcript, become part of the student’s high school numeric average, and cannot be removed from the transcript in the future. If the credits are accepted, the class cannot be repeated or retaken in high school. If credits are declined, they cannot be added to the high school transcript in the future, and the student will repeat the course in high school if needed.
Can I take a tour of Cambridge High School before coming to the school next year if I am a rising 9th grader from a feeder-pattern school?
-
In the spring, 8th-grade students from our feeder schools will take a field trip to tour Cambridge High School. Students from our non-feeder schools are also welcome to attend this tour, which will be held during the school day. This summer, we will have our annual Bear Camp for all rising 9th-grade students and students new to Cambridge High School. More information, as it becomes available, will be posted on our website.
For prospective new students to Cambridge High School, Campus Tours have been scheduled and can be viewed at Campus Tours. Please sign up via the form on this page so we know more about your student and their interests.
When will we select our classes for next year? I don’t want the classes to be full.
-
Current 8th-grade students from our feeder schools will fill out schedule requests in the spring through their middle school. Any other new students will fill out schedule requests upon completing their Fulton County Schools Online Registration Application. Schedules are not completed and set until right before school starts, so there is plenty of time.
Can I meet with the high school counselor to discuss my classes?
-
Rising 9th grade students will select classes at their school with the help of teacher recommendations and the middle school counselor. Students new to Fulton County Schools will meet with a counselor upon completion of the online enrollment process.
Can I come to the school in person and register my student to start that same day?
-
Fulton County uses an online registration system to register students. Once the online registration is complete and all necessary documents are uploaded, parents/guards are instructed to email their completed online registration number (OLR) to chsenrollments@fultonschools.org so that the Registrar can process the enrollment. Once the enrollment is completed, the Registrar will put the parent/guardian in touch with their assigned counselor to make their schedule. While sometimes registrations can be completed and processed in one day (usually when all documents are included and there are no problems with the registration), it typically takes at least two days to complete the enrollment and be ready to start.
