Frequently Asked Questions for New Students

9th and New to Fulton County Schools

Do I have to re-enroll my student if they are a feeder-pattern student rolling up to Cambridge for 9th grade?
  • No – Your records will automatically roll up to Cambridge with the expectation that you will be attending next year.

  • You WILL be required to provide proof of residency during the summer before 9th grade starts. All 9th and 10th graders are required to provide two proofs of residency to maintain enrollment at the school.

Do I have to re-apply for COSA every year once approved?
  • No – Once you are approved for Cambridge High School, you are grandfathered in until you withdraw or until you graduate. There is no need to reapply yearly.

If my rising 9th grad student is not planning to attend Cambridge next year, what do I do?
  • You will need to go to Cambridge High School after school gets out for the summer and withdraw your student, even if you have not attended school at Cambridge yet.

I am a Fulton County resident but not zoned for Cambridge.  Can I still attend Cambridge?
  • You can apply to go to Cambridge through the Change of School Assignment process. Applications are accepted between December 9th and January 15th for the next school year’s (2025-2026) enrollment. You can find more information about the open enrollment at Fulton County Schools here.

I do not live in Fulton County. Can I come to Cambridge High School?
  • No. You must live in Fulton County to attend Cambridge High School.

High School Credits earned in middle school – Do I have to take them, and what happens if I do/don’t?
  • 8th grade families will complete the high school credit accept/decline process through their FCS middle school at the end of 8th grade.  If credits are accepted, they permanently post to the student’s high school transcript, become part of the student’s high school numeric average, and cannot be removed from the transcript in the future.  If the credits are accepted, the class cannot be repeated or retaken in high school. If credits are declined, they cannot be added to the high school transcript in the future, and the student will repeat the course in high school, if needed.

Can I take a tour of Cambridge High School before coming to the school next year if I am a rising 9th grader from a feeder-pattern school?
  • There are several opportunities to visit and learn about Cambridge High School before the new school year begins. This fall, we have two community events planned where you can explore the building and learn more about Cambridge: our Electives Fair and our Holiday Extravaganza.  In the spring, 8th-grade students will take a field trip to tour the school. Students from our non-feeder schools are also welcome to attend this tour, which will be held during the school day. This summer, we will have our annual Bear Camp for all rising 9th-grade students and students new to Cambridge High School. More information, as it becomes available, will be posted to www.Cambridgehs.org.

When will we select our classes for next year?   I don’t want the classes to be full.
  • The 8th-grade feeder pattern students will fill out schedule requests in the spring through their middle school. Any other new students will fill out schedule requests upon completing their Fulton County Schools Online Registration Application. Schedules are not completed and set until right before school starts, so there is plenty of time.

Can I meet with the high school counselor to discuss my classes?
  • Rising 9th grade students will select classes at their school with the help of teacher recommendations and the middle school counselor. Students new to Fulton County Schools can make an appointment to meet with a counselor upon completion of the online enrollment process.

Can I come to the school in person and register my student to start that same day?
  • Fulton County uses an online registration system to register students. Once the online registration is complete and all necessary documents are uploaded, parents/guards are instructed to email their completed online registration number (OLR) to chsenrollments@fultonschools.org so that the Registrar can process the enrollment. Once everything for the enrollment is completed, the Registrar will put the parent/guardian in touch with their assigned counselor to make their schedule. While sometimes registrations can be completed and processed in one day (usually when all documents are included and there are no problems with the registration), it typically takes at least two days to complete the enrollment and be ready to start.

Can I Door Dash food to the school?
  • No – You are not allowed to have food delivery services deliver to the school for safety reasons. You CAN have your parents drop off food or items you forgot to bring to the school on a table outside the front door of the school. Make sure they put your name on it.

Can I leave campus for lunch?
  • Only seniors who have earned senior privilege are allowed to leave during their lunch period. This privilege is earned every 9 weeks through attendance, grades, and behavior.

Am I allowed to park on campus?
  • Only seniors who have purchased a parking pass are allowed to park on campus. There is no parking on campus for underclassmen. There are a few churches in the area who sell parking for underclassmen.

How do I contact the attendance clerk to check out my student or send a parent/doctor note?
  • You should email the attendance office at chsattendance@fultonschools.org to send parent/doctor notes or to send notification that your student will be checking out of school. Your student will then receive a check out pass to come to the attendance office kiosk to check out before meeting you at the car. There is no need to come into the school if you send a note or email.

  • If you forget to send an email or note – you must come to the front office with a physical photo ID to check your student out.

If I need to come to Cambridge for a meeting, what do I do?
  • Parents should park in visitor parking and come into the school to the front office in Bridge East (left hand office inside the front door). You must bring a physical ID with you to check in and get your visitor sticker before being escorted to your meeting location. Please remember to check out before leaving the building.

Where does my student go on campus if they are in an online or DE class?
  • Students taking online or DE classes are not allowed be on campus during those scheduled periods. Those classes are on a student’s schedule at the beginning or end of the school day and are off campus only.
